يبدأ الإنسان رحلته بشغفٍ لا ينضب لاكتساب “أركان الإيمان”، وفي الخطوة التالية، يُدرك أن مواصلة هذا الطريق مرتبطةٌ بالشريعة الإلهية. والآن، وقد استنبط الإنسان باستمرارٍ إجابة قلبه، مُثقلاً بالأسئلة، وملتزماً أيضاً بشرع الله وسنة نبيه، وجد مسافةً شاسعةً بينه وبين غايته. فيُدرك أنه يجب عليه تغيير نفسه. على سبيل المثال، لديه بعض الصفات التي لا يرضاها، كالضغينة والحسد. أو قد تكون هناك صفاتٌ أخرى، كالعفو واللطف، يتمنى اكتسابها. ولذلك، في هذه الخطوة، يُدرك أنه للوصول إلى غايته، عليه إزالة العوائق – سواءً كانت عوائق خارجية كالأعداء، أو عوائق داخلية كالبعد الإنساني الذي يدعوه بلا انقطاع نحو أمورٍ زائلة.
